Damn, so all I was missing is the right APNs.. my pay-go data plan worked in 2009, but not in 2010 when I visited again (with the same number). The problem is I called customer service which then insisted it wouldn’t work, because their data plans for prepaid don’t work for iPhones – it’s against the rules!
I am sure I could sue them in some court as my iPhone was bought outside the USA and is factory unlocked, and the SIM was purchased before those rules came into effect. But – whatever. Now T-Mobile has prepaid SIM cards with data, and I’ll just switch to that and stop giving AT&T money.
